The Sportrock Junior Team has a national reputation for outstanding
competitive climbers, placing several in the national top five of their
divisions each year, but they are not the primary reason for the Team’s
existence.
We created the Junior Team as a setting for cooperation, instruction,
challenge and fun. Team members have the opportunity to improve
their climbing safety skills and movement technique in a supervised
and guided environment, advancing through skill levels like belts in
karate. And, like karate, the speed of advancement depends
on the student’s aptitude, work ethic and innate ability. Each
Team member is given the personal guidance and instruction needed to
achieve their potential.
Sessions include instruction
in safety skills and climbing techniques, as well as games and team-building
exercises. Each Sportrock facility has several teams at varying
skill levels meeting weekly. Additionally, several of the
teams are competitive in nature and, where possible, meet for occasional
competitions around the region.
Admittance to Junior Team usually requires a FREE try out given
the first Beginner session (see below) each month in all gyms. Please
call the gym you plan on attending in advance to register for the
session. Junior Team climbers are required to be Sportrock
members.
