We are excited to announce that the 2009 Outdoor Climbing Season is here!

Tired of being cramped up inside all winter? Are you longing to spend some time outside in the fresh air and sunshine? Wanna feel real rock under your hands?

Sportrock offers a variety of outdoor climbing classes for all skill and technical levels:

Brand new to rock climbing and don't know where to start?  Sign-up for our Outdoor Basic Skills class which will prepare you for climbing outside and whet your appetite for more outdoor classes!

Eager to learn how to set up Top Rope anchors outdoors?  Then our Top Rope Systems 1 and 2 classes are for you.

Want to just get outside and climb?  Leave the tecnical aspects of anchor building and belaying to us and sign up for a private guiding trip to your desired climbing location!

Our Outdoor Programs are designed to teach you all you need to know to begin safe, fun, and ethical climbing practices.

Sportrock has AMGA (American Mountain Guide Association) certified instructors on staff who are also licensed Wilderness First Aid and Wildernerss First Responders - you are in GREAT hands with our professional instructors.

Description:

This introductory class teaches novice climbers the basic skills necessary to safely rock climb. Items covered: knot craft, harness wear and adjustment, belaying, climbing techniques, rappelling and climbing safety. Participants will spend the remainder of the class practicing the skills and climbing. Location: Great Falls National Park

Top Rope Anchor Systems 1

Description:

A “must take” class if you want to start climbing outside on your own. The goal of the class is to learn how to set up safe anchor systems where the belayer is at the bottom of the cliff. You’ll learn and practice several new knots and methods for setting up bomber top rope anchor systems as well as spend time climbing. Location: Great Falls National Park

Top Rope Anchor Systems 2

Top Rope Anchor Systems 1 or equivalent. Participants should have a harness, belay device, 2-locking carabiners, 1-prusik cord and a helmet if you own one.

Description:

The emphasis of this class is to learn safe, redundant anchor systems, where the belayer is at the top of the cliff. This is especially useful when the descent is treacherous or if belaying from the bottom is not an option. This class will also include instruction on rappelling, learning new knots and an introduction on how to build solid top rope anchors using gear placed in natural features. Participants will have time to practice the skills learned and climb.
